County to Handle Inspections & Permits
Effective June 18, 2018, the City of Creedmoor will no longer issue building permits nor conduct construction plan review, building code enforcement, or building inspections. These duties will now be handled by Granville County.
Prior to the retirement of its former building codes administrator, the city handled its own building inspection and permitting functions and was the only municipality in Granville County to provide these services. Due to licensing requirements and ongoing changes in state law, it is extremely difficult to have one employee with all the certifications necessary to handle these duties. With the county already having multiple employees providing these services in all other areas, the city anticipates a smooth transition and a more consistent process for contractors and residents. Zoning compliance permits will still be issued by the City of Creedmoor; however, once issued they will then be taken to the Granville County offices in Oxford for review and permitting. As the permit-issuing agency, the county will also schedule building inspections which are usually performed on the next business day.
All active, existing permits will be transferred to Granville County on June 25, 2018. After that date, all inspections for transferred permits will need to be requested directly from Granville County. City of Creedmoor staff will no longer be involved with either scheduling nor fee collection.
Please contact Michael Frangos, Creedmoor Community Development Director, at (919) 764-1058 if you have any questions regarding the new process. Granville County Inspections Department contact information is listed below for your convenience.
