The Creedmoor Police department held a “CommUNITY Cookout” Thursday evening, July 5th at the corner of North and Lyon Streets. The cookout was held as a follow up to the recent drug roundup “Operation Independence Day” within this neighborhood.

The event was well attended by the community and local leaders including Mayor Wheeler, City Manager Mike Bonfield, Commissioners Del Mims and Herman Wilkerson, and former Mayor and Lyon Street native Darryl Moss. Even the rain held off in support of those who came out to show their unity and resolve against the illegal activities that had been occurring.

Chief Keith King challenged all of his officers who attended to maintain the progress that had been achieved within this community.

“The event would not have been possible without the diligent efforts of Lt. Ricky Cates, Detective Eugene Harris of CPD, and S/S Jack Cates of NCALE, who orchestrated “Operation Independence Day”. A special thanks to the City of Creedmoor Event Coordinator, Angie Perry, for her hand in planning the event, and the officers who cooked, served, and fellowshipped with the Community members. This commUNITY cookout was the first of more to come,” stated Chief Keith King.
