CCT Construction to Begin, Traffic Disruptions Expected
Have you noticed orange traffic cones and barrels being staged around the city? The long-awaited Cross City Trail sidewalk and greenway project is about to begin. Contractors for the project, Fred Smith Company, have been working to prepare the project areas for start of construction.
At the same time the Cross City Trail project construction is occurring, the NCDOT realignment project known as R-5707 will also be under construction within Creedmoor’s city limits. The R-5707 project will realign NC-56 (West Lake Road and West Wilton Avenue) at US-15 (North Durham Avenue) and NC-50 in Creedmoor. The existing traffic control signal will be relocated northward to the new intersection and additional sidewalks will also be included as part of the improvements.
With both projects occurring simultaneously, residents will experience disruptions to traffic flow and other inconveniences. Motorists should plan for delays at any point along the project routes and adjust commute time accordingly.
Roadway lanes may be subject to closure at any time Monday through Friday except from 6:00 to 9:00 am and 4:00 to 7:00 pm. This prohibition will allow for the least disruption to work and school commuter traffic. The contractor will be permitted to close traffic lanes on affected roadways from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. There are no prohibitions against lane restrictions on weekends.
The projects will take between 12 and 16 months to complete, depending on weather conditions. Contractors will strive to minimize disruptions and ask for your cooperation and patience as they work to complete these great projects for our community.
Special effort will be made to keep residents informed of progress, potential detours, and other important information via city website and social media.
