NC DOT to Permanently Close Intersection of Pine Street and West Lake Road

The NC Department of Transportation (DOT) will permanently close the intersection of Pine Street and West Lake Road at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31. This permanent closure is part of the NC-56 realignment (project R-5707) currently under construction. NC DOT will construct a cul-de-sac at the current intersection location, and residents will retain driveway access throughout construction. Drivers will now take North Durham Avenue to Sunset Street to access Pine Street.

Project R-5707 will adjust the current traffic pattern from the series of turns currently needed to stay on NC-56 and form a direct tie between West Lake Road and Wilton Avenue. A new median-divided connecting road will be constructed north of the existing West Lake Road, and will improve traffic flow as well as driver and pedestrian safety. This project will also consist of sidewalk construction that will connect to the City of Creedmoor-managed Cross City Trail project. R-5707 will necessitate land closures and traffic delays in the construction zone.

Please exercise caution when driving through the work zone, and watch for workers and equipment in the roadway. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to the posted speed limit, and any changes to the normal traffic pattern.
