SGWASA Enacts Stage 1 Voluntary Water Reductions

Butner, NC — The South Granville Water and Sewer Authority has enacted Stage 1 Voluntary Reductions under its adopted Water Shortage Response Plan, effective July 10, 2026.

Stage 1 is implemented when water supply conditions indicate the potential for a water shortage. At this stage, SGWASA encourages all water customers to voluntarily reduce their normal water use by five percent. No penalties apply during Stage 1.

“Stage 1 is a proactive conservation measure intended to reduce demand before more restrictive actions become necessary,” said Scott N. Schroyer, SGWASA Executive Director. “We are asking customers to help protect our water supply by using water wisely and eliminating unnecessary water use wherever possible.”

Customers are encouraged to take the following voluntary conservation steps:

• Limit landscape irrigation to no more than one inch per week.

• Avoid water waste, runoff, and watering sidewalks, driveways, streets, or other impervious surfaces.

•Water plants deeply to encourage strong root growth.

•Wash only full loads of laundry and dishes.

•Use spring-loaded nozzles on garden hoses.

•Check for and repair leaks promptly.

SGWASA staff will continue to monitor water supply conditions and will provide updates as needed. If conditions improve, conservation measures may be reduced. If conditions worsen, additional response measures may be implemented in accordance with the Water Shortage Response Plan.
