National Day of Play is an annual event that provides various indoor/outdoor recreation activities to encourage both children and adults to stop and play.
Past events have boasted themes featuring snow sledding and even a professional bicycle stunt show. Other interactive activities . . . such as Yard Pong, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Water Balloon Fights, and bigger-than-life Tic-Tac-Toe are all part of the fun! The City of Creedmoor sponsors this event and all activities are at no cost to attendees, so come on out and enjoy the fun along with free picnic-style refreshments like hot dogs and sno-cones!
A national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating active play, KaBOOM! began recognizing select cities and towns across the country as Playful City USA communities in 2007 and continued this recognition through 2017. The City of Creedmoor is proud to have been designated a Playful City USA community for all 10 years that the accolade was awarded. Although KaBoom! is taking a break from the Playful City USA program, Creedmoor Recreation will continue to focus on finding new, innovative, and exciting ways to ensure that all kids have access to play.
The City of Creedmoor believes the wellbeing of any community begins with the wellbeing of its youth; which is the reason Creedmoor’s Recreation Department focuses on structured programming and pop-up play opportunities. It’s family-oriented First Fridays programming, open gym sessions for youths, and baking and painting classes are just a few examples of how the city works to make play accessible to everyone.
The City is in the design phase of making substantial improvements and expansion to Lake Rogers Park, the City Gymnasium & Activity Center, and the Senior Center which will greatly increase the capacity for recreational opportunities for children and adults in the future.
Residents are encouraged to register for e-Notification to stay informed of event news and happenings in Creedmoor. Visit the Events Calendar page to see the date and other details for the next Day of Play event.
